Responsible travel is about designing holiday packages in an environmentally and culturally responsible way. Responsible tourism mainly focuses on minimizing the negative impacts on the environment and maximizing the positive contribution towards the local community. The main objective is to provide the best experiential holiday in Sri Lanka for our travelers while leaving a positive impact on the destination.
Enjoy a rewarding experience by learning more about the natural environment, culture & history that make every destination unique. Learn a few basic phrases of the destination’s local language. This might come in handy when you are there.
Walking, biking, & trekking, or exploring one place in-depth is a good way to reduce your carbon footprint. At urban destinations, walk whenever possible. You’ll see more & avoid getting stuck in rush-hour traffic.
Conservation should always be on a traveler’s mind. Whatever helps the environment, such as recycling or staying in an eco-friendly hotel, buy recycled products, use water wisely, & turn off lights as you would at home, will protect the environment while traveling in Sri Lanka or any destination.
Show respect & interest in the local culture. At sacred sites, dress modestly, speak softly, & be mindful of people who are there to worship. Enjoy & experience local celebrations & festivals as they can provide a unique glimpse into local culture & are a fun way to meet locals, taste and try traditional foods, & learn about your destination’s heritage.
Animals are a part of nature & co-exist with humans on this earth, as a responsible traveler you must firmly stand for animal welfare & commit to ensuring animals are not harmed in any way to satisfy a tourist. Say no to captive animal-related activities.
Take only photographs and make sure that a flasher is permitted because a flash can damage centuries-old artwork. Be aware of local traditions when photographing people & when in doubt, ask permission before snapping a picture. Never remove anything from a site.
As a visitor, the money you spend on your trip can help support the local artisans, farmers & business owners whose livelihoods depend on tourism. Buy vegetables, fruits or souvenirs from the small-time shops to support the less fortunate families & put a smile on their face.
Leave a beautiful place for others to enjoy. Recycle where possible, & always dispose of your waste with care.
Help threatened sites, support the underprivileged stakeholders of the destination for a better tomorrow.
Continue practicing your sustainable habits at home & encourage friends & family to travel with the same care. Spread your words to friends & family about responsible heritage tourism. Raise awareness by sharing your experiences on social media sites like Facebook & Instagram, or your travel blog. Start a global conservation conversation!
